Destin Council Member Arrested Over July 4 Boat Ramp Incident

Destin City Council member Teresa Hebert was arrested on July 10 and charged with trespassing to a conveyance, a charge arising from a confrontation at the Joe’s Bayou boat ramp on the Fourth of July, The Destin Log reported.

According to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office warrant affidavit described in that reporting, boater William Brand Hoffa IV told investigators that Hebert moved his 2022 GMC Denali and its attached boat trailer without his permission, saying she believed he was taking too long at the launch on a crowded holiday. The report indicates Hebert acknowledged moving the vehicle roughly 100 feet.

The Joe’s Bayou ramp at 800 Beach Drive is among the busiest public launches in the city, and holiday weekends routinely produce long waits.

An arrest is an accusation, not a conviction. Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
